In the city of Varanasi, Rani, a feisty street dancer, works tirelessly to provide for her deaf daughter. Meanwhile, Shahdab, a weaver whose parents died in the Babri Masjid riots, befriends an Israeli tourist who opens up a whole new world to him. The cultural and political identities of the protagonists are explored as they traverse the love and hate dynamics of an ancient city.

Ritesh Sharma
Ritesh Sharma is a filmmaker who spent 13 years in theatre education and social activism. He was awarded the Changeloom Award in 2008 for his active participation in social issues like human trafficking, and women’s and children’s rights. His first documentary, The Holy Wives (2010), about caste-based sexual exploitation and human trafficking in India, screened internationally and won the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival Award in 2011. His film, Rainbows are Real (2014), screened at Kolkata International Film Festival and the Boston LGBT Film Festival, and was also broadcast on NDTV Prime Documentaries. Jhini Bini Chadariya (2021), filmed in his hometown Varanasi, is his first feature film.
