In this wide-ranging talk, celebrated filmmaker Anurag Kashyap ruminates on his journey as a filmmaker; from hard-core cineaste, to darling of the indie film scene, to director of big-budget movies. He reflects on how he navigates these very different worlds and if it is possible to remain true to your vision in the face of financial constraints and demands. Is there truly such a thing as independent filmmaking, and if so, what is it? What compromises do you make as a filmmaker, and what is acceptable? Like well-known fellow movie buffs, Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, Anurag has vast knowledge of world cinema. How has this influenced his filmmaking? Who are the filmmakers he admires? What advice does he have for young filmmakers starting out today?
