Monographs is a project born during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a critical platform for discourse on moving images beyond the confines of cinema. The second edition of Monographs, guided by filmmaker and editor Daniel Hui, and researcher and curator Matthew Barrington, comprises 13 commissioned works, including seven video essays and six written essays. It delves into evolving geological and socio-political landscapes, questioning how the environment, climate, and human and non-human connections can be reimagined. Drawing from the cycles of geological transformation, Monographs 2023 explores the tensions between form and formlessness, sound and silence, as landscapes are continually sinking, shifting, stirring.
