MONOGRAPHS 2023: SINKING, SHIFTING, STIRRING

Poster - MONOGRAPHS 2023: SINKING, SHIFTING, STIRRING

Monographs is a project born during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a critical platform for discourse on moving images beyond the confines of cinema. The second edition of Monographs, guided by filmmaker and editor Daniel Hui, and researcher and curator Matthew Barrington, comprises 13 commissioned works, including seven video essays and six written essays. It delves into evolving geological and socio-political landscapes, questioning how the environment, climate, and human and non-human connections can be reimagined. Drawing from the cycles of geological transformation, Monographs 2023 explores the tensions between form and formlessness, sound and silence, as landscapes are continually sinking, shifting, stirring.

Asian Film Archive (AFA)
Founded in January 2005 to preserve the rich film heritage of Asian Cinema, the AFA aspires to be a hub for the Asian film community, contributing to an enriched appreciation of film culture, scholarship and industry through organised screenings, and educational and cultural programmes that open and enrich new intellectual, educational and creative spaces.
