Guneet Monga burst onto the filmmaking stage as a young, unknown, outsider woman who pulled the rug from under the entrenched preconceptions of a primarily male-dominated industry and proved against all odds that someone like her could succeed as a film producer. To date, she has produced more than 25 films, including the award-winning Gangs of Wasseypur (Parts 1 and 2), The Lunchbox, Monsoon Shootout, and Masaan. She won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards for The Elephant Whisperer. In 2021, she was conferred the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government.
In a frank conversation with DIFF Director Ritu Sarin, she talks about her remarkable cinematic journey, her trials and tribulations, her future plans, and offers advice to those inspired by her achievements and wishing to follow in her steps.
