Jorge leaves his family and his moto-taxi business in the suburbs of Lima to seek his fortune as a miner. He makes his way to the highest and most dangerous Andean gold mine in Peru. Lost under a glacier in the mountains, La Rinconada is “the closest city to the sky” and attracts thousands of seasonal workers in search of a better life and more promising opportunities. It is here that Jorge begins his voyage, foreshadowed by ominous events. In the dark underbelly of the mine shafts, the lines between reality and magic, and documentary and fiction, blur. The gold belongs to the Devil, El Tido de la Mina, and he must be periodically appeased.
