56-year-old Perianayaki, a Sri Lankan immigrant, works in a neighbourhood supermarket in New Zealand. She struggles with blending in because she cannot speak English and is forced to come to terms with the challenging reality of her life.

Bala Murali Shingade
Bala Murali Shingade graduated from the University of Auckland with an MA in Screen Production. In 2020, he was one of six recipients of the Arts Foundation Springboard Award. Perianayaki is his second short film.
