In 1948, at the London Olympics, post-Partition independent India defeats England – their erstwhile coloniser – in the hockey tournament to win the gold medal. Sixty years later, Nandy Singh, a member of that prestigious team suffers a stroke. His stoic struggle to live with his disability inspires his daughter to retrace the steps of his journey. Drawing from archival footage and interviews with his teammates, she reveals the lives shaped by that historic gold medal and the consequences of the Partition that left them as refugees. She also finds an old friend from Pakistan, who played in the same pre-Partition Indian team as her father, but who he never mentioned. In search of his journey, her quest leads her to the lost ‘watan’ (homeland).
